Day 1 Metrics

It's February 3, and I have written the first 2,500 words of LM#15.


That is all.


No, that is not all, actually.  It's come to my attention that one of the files I lost during the Crash of 2015 was Loaded March Characters.doc, which just so happens to be the list of names, descriptions, occupations of nearly everyone in the series (I kind of stopped updating it around 8 or 9).  Another file that disappeared -- actually, nearly the entire contents of my Worldbuilding folder -- was This is what the fuck that was.doc, with plot details and crucial information to make sure that I didn't mess up.

(Which I'm sure I did.  Multiple times.)

If I look at what I have now and consider how many of those words words have four X's in them (i.e., thingthatgoesboomXXXX -- my catch-all CTRL+F to find the details I don't fill in until later, so that I don't have to stop to look it up), I'm afraid I'm going to have to call upon the Hive Mind (or just anyone who has a really good recollection of LM) to answer some questions about LM.

Man, it's embarrassing to ask, but I'm acutely aware that the fans of the series have way more knowledge about the story than I do (and I'm totally cool with that.  One day I will rectify that problem by rereading everything and recompiling the files) and it's just easier and faster if, I just ask.

So this is me, with a global help me do my homework request, and hoping that no one minds.

LM hive mind to the rescue!! That is one sucky computer crash though, hope you didn't lose too many other important things unrelated to LM. So excited to hear that #15 is on the way :D

I nearly lost my entire PhD thesis last year when my desktop crashed.
Thank goodness I had just transferred everything important onto my Dropbox account that morning.
Now I work exclusively off Dropbox. If your files aren't massive, such online backups can be really useful. :)

OUCH. That would make me cry. Actually, when my MSc thesis got completely corrupted a week before final turn-in, I think I did cry, but losing it the way you did is worse. What luck that you'd saved it!

I now have multiple copies of what I have left and a new network hard drive to automatically backup everything, so I think I'm good for now. I've had Dropbox come up often when searching for options but I'll look at it again.

Oh my! I must have read your mind from long distance because I started re reading 2 days ago. I'm at R&R and I intend to follow that rythm so if you want to know anything just fire away whenever you want. I'm willing to help. I had several pc crushes through out the last years, and I'm looking for a new laptop currently, that's why I sympathise with your current situation. First it's the shock, then comes despair to find someone who can extract my lost files. I really wish you pass through this as smoothly as possible.

I forgot to tell you that a friend suggested me a pc program to recover lost files and etc. the program it's called Pandora recovery. Here is a link from softonic:

I think it's a freeware. I used it and I recovered many things and also half of a word document I was working on! Imagine that! I almost jumped to the sky, I even hugged my dog while spinning XD yes, poor dog.

Well, hope it helps you as much as it can. First see if it has 2 versions: one for microsoft and one from mac, since I don't now what laptop or desktop you're using. Yes, kind of a nerd, that I am buuuut that knowledge saved my life so many times XD

There is a wiki, but I'm afraid if I went through it I'd end up spending more time researching other bits instead of actually writing. I know what I'm like when I research -- I can spend hours reading up on something that only makes up a sentence in the story.

Sucks about the files, to say the least. But of course you can ask the Hive (I say, who is the worst ever to remember things, even as I'm doing a re-read as we speak)! I just assume everyone else has better memory than me. :)

Well, I can try, even though my Spanish is pretty different to what is mainly spoken in USA (and the Spanish I assume is spoken in TW), I have a long history of telenovelas watching/Harry-Potter-fanfiction-written-by-people-from-South-America reading, so I think I can do it :)

Someone mentioned a fanmade wiki about your series, I checked and yes it does exist! loaded-march.wikia.com! Haven't gone through it yet so I'm not sure what's on there, but it exists at least.

But like I said in another comment, I'm kind of wary about going on that site, not because it's not awesome (it really is ), but because I would spend way too much time on there instead of writing. I kind of drown in things when I do research.

I'm just making flappidy noises of joy over knowing the word vomiting has commenced! Oh, and sad eyes at the file loss, but a small glee smile at possibly answering a question. A marketing team should look at this for inspiration on drumming up fan participation. :) I took a reading hiatus around 9 somewhere, so it's about time to saddle up again, and bite the feelings bullet.
