Sorry, sorry.  I know there's been radio silence for a while now, and there will be an update -- both on the State of Things (the Things being me and Stuff in general) and the State of the Thing (the Thing being LM#14), but for now, please accept this in apologetic tribute.

More than a year ago, [livejournal.com profile] marguerite_28 posted a Canada Comment Fest, for which there was a lovely prompt that I couldn't let go.  I finished it, put it aside, added more to it, put it aside again, sent it to my beta, went through her revisions, put it aside, added more to it, and, you know what?  It's been sitting in my inbox long enough.

So, here, have a fic.

Title: Coureurs de Bois
Fandom: Teen Wolf
Rating: G to Teen
Word Count: 25,000ish

Summary:
All Stiles wanted to do was set out on his own, just him and Scott. But Scott met the girl of his dreams and got them both mixed up with the special brand of crazy that was the fur-trapping Argent Trading Company. The last thing Stiles expected on the journey into the wilderness was to find out that the Argents weren't crazy after all, that the wolf-spirits his mom taught him about as a child were real, or that he'd fall in love with one.

If anyone's wondering what I'll be doing for the next little while, writing-wise, it's taking a break from long!fic and writing pure, uncut (*pun intended*) porn.

So, if you're in the TW fandom in any way, shape, or form, and interested in reading a whole lot of porn join the community below.  If you can write 750-1000 words of porn, are a bit competitive, and are in great need of a bit of fun and a whole lot of team!ship, consider signing up for the [livejournal.com profile] mating_games!

As of Friday, I have 12,000 words on LM#14 and a pretty good idea of what to write next, so I'm pleased.  I have no idea how long it's going to end up, though, so stay tuned.

Unfortunately, since I'm working in a restricted area this week (there are no words to say how pleased I am by how rarely this happens, but it does happen a few times a year), and the work is the attention-to-detail/time-consuming/can't-leave-it-alone-or-disaster! sort, I won't be able to get away much, if at all, to do any writing during my breaks or my lunch.  So, for that reason, I'm declaring it a metrics-amnesty week, just so that I don't stress over it.  If I get word count, yay!  If I don't get word count, oh, well, it's not the end of the world.

On the flip side, since I met my weekly word count goal for LM#14, I spent the weekend finishing up an old fic that was originally started for [livejournal.com profile] marguerite_26's Oh Canada Fest.  I am a little overdue on this one, I'm afraid.

Is anyone interested in being a beta?  It's Teen Wolf, PG-13, Stiles/Derek and nearly 25K.  Some knowledge of Canadian history would be helpful, but not necessary.

I know I said, Next up: Writing fight scenes, but that post will get kind of involved and will require me to draw sketches of all types and find links to show you what I'm talking about, because fight scenes, while ridiculously fun for me to write, aren't necessarily fun for anyone else, and visuals (particularly those including hilariously bad stick figures) make everything better.

So, instead, I'm going to write about introspection (it was a topic someone suggested, probably by accident, but still an equally valid topic). More specifically, character introspection.

I guess I got myself un-stuck from the proverbial Writer's Block -- but I'm sure everyone knows by now that when I get blocked, I just end up writing something else in the meantime.

So along with the 2,000-some words that I did today for LM#12, I have some 3,500 words of a Teen Wolf fic behind the cut (very definitely an AU, very much a Sterek).

But first: metrics.

A Teen Wolf writing challenge and writing workshop community

I like the idea of a writing workshop so much that I signed up.  While I don't know if I'll be posting snippets for review (it'll depend on what I'm working on during any given week), I'll definitely be commenting when time permits.  Even if you're not a TW fic writer, but you're interested in the productive crit process, you should at least check it out!

ONE
I still suck at replying to comments both here and on AO3, never mind the PMs and the emails that I've received.  I used to be better at this, damn it.

TWO
I do know why I am demonstrating severe anti-social skills, though.  It seems to be a recurring trend.  Whenever I can see the end of a fic, I tend to turtle a little and hunker down a lot and try to get there in marathon spurts of writing in an attempt to make up for the oh God I don't wanna slumps of my writing -- wait.  Hold on.  Let me draw you a graph:

photo

I was lost in the Plot Bunny Boneyard pit (I totally wrote that "bonehard" the first time, don't laugh) for a while -- apparently that's where plot bunnies leave the dismembered corpses of writers that don't pay attention to them -- for a while there, but I worked my way out.  Unfortunately that was after the plot bunnies realized there was fresh meat in there, so I have new nibbles on my bodies and totally need my plot bunnies shot, but I'll take care of that later.  Anyway, the point is that I'm somewhere where the neon green X is in terms of % completion.  The recent burst of writing?  I blame my anti-social skills on that.

THREE
The lovely [livejournal.com profile] asya_ana put together a new community for fandom writers of Teen Wolf -- [livejournal.com profile] teenwolfwriters -- geared for... oh, wait.  I'm going to be lazy, so here is a quotation I've lifted from the first post:

This is a low-stakes writing comm where you can share short writing pieces and receive non-evaluative criticism and suggestions from other members. All pairings and genres welcome. The idea is to improve your writing, help other people improve theirs, and build community.

Remember my Wreck and Rebuilds?  It's going to be that kind of thing but probably not as intense and much, much more helpful.  Plus, prompts!  Check out the LJ for more information, sign up, etc.  I'm neck deep in writing random fics right now, so I will probably contribute by critting at first, so please don't be shy.  The goal there is to exchange useful and helpful feedback.

So, remember the thing where I said I wasn't signing up for any more fests for the rest of the year?  And how I failed twice within like a month of that drastic announcement?  The first time was because I wanted to help out for something that was completely anon, and the second time because, well, I'd forgotten that I had already signed up (but we won't talk about my memory!fail) for the Merlin RBB.

Today's Reveal Day!  I can now tell you what I was working on.

I pitch-hitted for Teen Wolf Fall Harvest ([livejournal.com profile] tw_fallharvest)!  I've never pitch-hitted before, and although I have written TW fic (unfinished and yet-to-be-posted), this is my first official TW fic.

I was given an amazing prompt, and even though I had two weeks to write it (give or take), we all know my propensity for writing long(er) fics, and I was/still am writing Part #11, so it was a bit of a juggle to get the word count properly distributed.  I know I could have done more for the fic (my notes on that are beneath the pseudo-link) but I'm happy with it, and I am pretty pleased that my giftee liked her story.

If you're into Teen Wolf, don't mind an overdose of pop culture, and don't mind vampires, there's a story for you.  But if you're only into one of those three things, totally check out all the awesome stories that were written as part of the fest.

Title: Real Vampires Are Not Disco Balls
Recipient: [livejournal.com profile] espressopotluck
Author: [livejournal.com profile] loaded_march/Footloose (on AO3)
Rating: R
Pairings: Stiles/Derek, Lydia/Erica (background)
Word Count: 16,000
Content Notes/Warnings: Underage, dub-con, internet stalking, creepy supernaturals
Summary: Despite Derek's insistence to the contrary, vampires do exist. And one of them is snacking on the good people -- should that be the tasty people? -- of Beacon Hills.
Author's Notes: Happy Fall Harvest, [livejournal.com profile] espressopotluck! I hope you enjoy this fic. I tried to incorporate as many prompts as I could. Also, a big thank you to [livejournal.com profile] fuzzytomato02, who got me into TW in the first place, and to [livejournal.com profile] castmeaway for the amazing, last minute beta.

Out of the three prompts that had been listed, I decided to go for a mash of the first two (Stiles and vampires and badass!Lydia).  You might be able to see the third one if you squint a little (a quotation, roughly paraphrased: the beast you make of me).

I'll admit that this was an easy prompt mash-up for me for one reason: I am totally a vampire whore.  No, not in that way, geez.  If there's a vampire book out there, I've read it.  If there's a vampire movie, I've seen it.  If there was a TV show about vampires, about people who lived the vampire lifestyle, or about people who believe they are vampires, I've watched it.  If there was a role-playing game, a video game, or a card game about or with vampires in it, I've played it.  I've researched the medical aspect of it, I've written vampires into stories, and I've probably memorized more lore than I know what to do with.

However, I have not chatted with real vampires after stumbling into a Vampire dating site.  I just wanted to make that clear. *nods*

I was a precocious child/annoying teenager with an unhealthy interest in the supernatural (I was equally invested in werewolves, which in no way explains my fascination with TW).

Despite the fact that the prompt was right up my alley -- my original fic have badass!female characters in them, for example -- and that I had a blast writing it, I don't feel I did the prompt justice.  There's a lot more that I wanted to do with the fic.  A lot.  This could easily have become twice its size, if only I had the time.

I wanted to go into a couple of directions with the fic.  MacLaren turned out to be a character in his own right, and I wanted him to have gotten his hooks into Stiles at least once.  There needed to be more of a slow build between Stiles and Derek (we all know how much I love to draw out the UST).  I wanted to have more case!fic involved here.  I wanted to show a competitive friendship between Stiles and Lydia.  And, more importantly, I wanted to tell the story from Lydia's side, too, giving her a POV.

Maybe someday I will go back and revisit the fic and expand on it like I wanted to from the beginning, but couldn't indulge in.  But for the time I had, the amount of words I managed, and the breadth of the plot that I came up with, I'm happy with Real Vampires Are Not Disco Balls.

So, the general consensus appears to be that I've been rather neglectful when it comes to giving Will a surname.  Easily remedied!  But, no, it won't be Will Williamson, and it won't be Will Thacher (but thanks for playing; I got a nice chuckle out of those).

Um.

What about Kay?  I know I gave Kay a surname.  I mean, I must have, but the document that I use to keep track of facts, which I haven't updated since, oh, Part 3, is missing this useful detail.  For some reason.

And here's a few random things so that this post isn't just about how incredibly awful I am at keeping track of my own shit:

1) Despite the hectic madness of the last week, this one has sort of returned to normal.  I still don't have time to do a lot of writing during my breaks or lunch hour because I don't have breaks or lunch hour (too busy), but at least I'm coming home at my usual time.  Unfortunately, I'm doing a lot of stress eating and stress running, and I'm pretty sure I'm only operating on 20% brain power right now.

2) Correction:19%, because another one of the gremlins who work at the BrainPower Nuclear Plant just quit in a hissy fit of epic proportions.  That's okay.  I'll just get a few of them wet and feed the offspring after midnight and I'll be back to 21% in no time.

3) I've managed to keep with the word count output for Part #11, though.  I didn't do any writing last weekend (I'm pretty sure I shut down to do something about the coolant cells at the Nuclear Plant hitting critical temperatures), but I've been anywhere between 2,000 and 3,500 words a day.

4) And anywhere from 500 to 1000 words a day on this other thing that I signed up for that I wasn't supposed to sign up for after I swore up and down that I wouldn't sign up for anything else for the rest of the year but it's totally not my fault, people were supposed to stop me and they didn't and I would never say no when a friend is in a bind.

5) Don't be mad at me.  Please!

Edited to add:

6) Oh, yeah.  Apparently LJ's latest is causing people to veer toward Dreamwidth; to that end, I have created an account there as well.  Keeping with my tradition of not having the same nick everywhere I sign up, I'm BooBooBear on Dreamwidth.

No, not really.

I'm totally kidding.  I'm loaded_march on Dreamwidth, too.  It's completely, absolutely freaking empty right now and at some point I will figure it out the same way I'll figure out tumblr, but, there you have it.  I'm on there.

loaded_march: (Default)

A little while ago, I posted that I had been receiving PMs asking if there was a podfic of Loaded March and PMs asking what my policy on podfics were.  In case you missed it, [livejournal.com profile] resqdog51 expressed her interest in setting up a collaborative podfic.  I don't know what the status of this is, but if you're interested, contact her at watchoutforice at gmail dot com.

I'm done writing fests for the year.  I think I'm actually a bit burned out by fests -- don't get me wrong, I enjoy them, and sometimes a prompt plot bunny bites me super hard, but I do have a long list of stories I want to write, and they are eating my brain.  Hopefully, I will get through a good chunk of them before the next [livejournal.com profile] paperlegends.

And speaking of writing, I haven't done any writing posts for a while.  I kind of abandoned the worldbuilding series (I'll pick it up again) because, to be honest, I have no idea how I go about worldbuilding.  I'm actually quite disorganized and chaotic when it comes to worldbuilding, and, well, I'm working out how to do the whole translating-my-brain-into-something-useful-and-informative on that front.  However, if there are any topics you'd like to see me write about, I'd like to hear them.

So.  I did the tumblr thing.  I signed up (insanewordcount).  I created a Merlinverse blog (loadedmarch).  In the next few minutes, I'll have created a TWverse blog (shamansdrum), which is spoilery for the title of the series, but, yeah, okay.  I've made a total of two posts, answered a few questions, and still have no idea what to use it for.  I will, at some point, figure it out.  I promise.  Just like I'll figure out this whole following people thing.  But, to be honest, I prefer LJ as a platform for blogs, because it tolerates my long and wordy stuff.  And, if I ever look to be drowning in the tumblr pool, you all have my permission to throw me a life ring (or to just shove me out of the pool if you're already in it).

I'm getting closer to the end of the first part (which is nice timing since I have plans to start LM #11 soon) of the TW fic, and I'm thinking now might be a good time to see if anyone is interested in betaing for this, um, series?  I'd like to (preferentially) keep the same beta all the way through mainly for continuity, so it would have to be someone who can hang around for a while, and who can kick me in the butt when I have this really sucks moments.

loaded_march: (Shut up King is Porning)
I'm sitting here yawning my goddamn jaw off, teetering on the edge between [Poll #1869968]

Anyway, yes, in other news -- and I am totally a coward here posting it at the bottom where people won't see it -- yes, as some of you have spotted (you eagle-eyed lot, you), yes, I am writing Teen Wolf fic.  I'm mostly picking at it right now, but it's an AU, involves Stiles and Derek as the main pairing, and it has me banging my head on a (soft) surface because it is starting to show signs of growing up into its own series.

GDI.  Why can't I write short?

Maybe a better question would be why I always seem to get mugged by series-sized plot bunnies, or why I can't seem to run away from them, or why no one seems to be saving me, because, people, you see these fingers?  They're getting worn down to the bone here.

--  and anyway, yes, that's why I'm afraid of why it's probably altogether an achievable word count, and, well.

Help?

Anyone?

Bueller?
