whoops
This not-posting thing is not deliberate. Sometimes I just run out of time in the day, other times I forget, but mostly, I have no idea what to post about without sounding like some pretentious, opinionated dickhead. Everyone's got pretentious, opinionated dickheads in their lives; I don't want to be That Guy.
But today, I will post because I had an Incident at work. I have this colleague, you see -- though I have more seniority than him, he is higher up in the proverbial food chain and has absolutely zero authority over anyone, least of all me. He wishes it was different. He bemoans the fact that no one listens to him, because he, of course, knows best. He puts down people, he belittles their work, he steals their ideas and claims them as his own -- sometimes years later, after first convincing them that their idea wasn't a good one.
Absolutely nobody likes this colleague. Nobody wants to work with him, full stop. I've mentioned pretentious, opinionated dickheads -- he's one of them, but he's a lot of other things too, including self-absorbed, narcissistic, and arrogant. He's had blow-outs with almost everyone to some degree. I've lost my temper only twice in the workplace, and both times it was with him.
Today was number three. Except it was less losing my temper and more, Fuck, no, you didn't just say that to me. Normally, I don't give a shit because it's not worth it, but not this time. I told him to stop, explained to him a thing, and when he tried to justify himself, I cut him off because he doesn't have a goddamn leg to stand on.
He left in an angry huff, which amuses me, because he has no right to be angry when he's the one who's been pulling this bullshit for months. Another colleague, who was nearby and heard everything I said, approached my office gingerly, thumbed in the direction the Dickhead went in, and shook his head. "He done fucked up. He done fucked up good."
I'm not the one in the wrong here, and there's no way for this to blow back onto me. The unfortunate thing is that my boss is well aware of the situation. I've complained about it verbally and in writing and I've asked him to do something about it because it's out of hand, now. My boss has told me he'll handle it, but he clearly hasn't if it's gotten this far, and it was just a matter of time before Dickhead said exactly the wrong thing and got a dressing down out of it.
If you've ever found yourself in an untenable situation with a coworker, document the fuck out of it, don't wait as long as I did to do something about it, and don't let the fuckers get away with it. You'll save yourself a whole lot of stress. When I told the Spouse what happened today, the only thing he said was, "How did it feel?"
I gotta tell you, it felt pretty fucking damn good.

Sorry that it got to this point, but it really must have felt nice to finally tell him off. Hopefully, he'll take several seats and cause less trouble from now on.

It sucks that your boss isn't taking care of the situation.
