WRiting Meme: "R"

[livejournal.com profile] uchiha_sister also asked for a third: "R", which is: Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines?

After a long period of time of laughing myself silly from the question, I gotta go with kind of and not really.

Worksheets? Nope.  I've tried it though, but when it got to the point where I was writing the fic in a spreadsheet, rather than getting the key points through?  It's just easier to write the fic in a document.

Outlines?  I swear to God, I've tried.  For complicated plots, I've started off with an outline.  And then I've diverged so badly barely two chapters in that by the time I've finished, my story no longer looks anything like it was supposed to.

What I do use are maps and diagrams, which I sketch out to plot where everyone is in an important, action-heavy scene (like fights).  The sad part is, once I've sketched it out, I never look at it again when I write, except if it's been a few days in-between the writing.

I'm terribly nosy XD, but thank you so much for taking the time to share. It's always fun when writers share little tibits from their writing experience, it makes me appreciate their work much more.

Always happy to answer! And it's not a terribly nosy question, just one that makes me laugh because, well. Tools are great, and I've tried them all, but I just don't use them well or effectively.

i had to laugh that you do map and diagram and then don't look at the documents again! Your pieces are so complicated that amazes me.
